ABSTRACT

The application of neuroscience within psychotherapy has become a mainstay of effective trauma therapies and evidence-based integrative practices. This chapter explores how neurocinematics—the neuroscientific study of film and cinema—can be effectively and ethically applied within trauma therapy. The author highlights case studies utilizing neurocinematics in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and mindfulness-based, expressive, and Somatic Experiencing (SE) practices, and presents protocols for acute and complex posttraumatic stress, secondary trauma, and traumatic grief.
