ASSISTANT AND PROVIDER PROGRAM

About the Program

Assistants provide active learning support at the training to participants and provide logistic support to the Coordinator and Faculty. As they gain experience, assistants can also become approved SE™ Credit Provider to provide personal sessions and case consults for which students receive credit towards their program requirements. Please see the Assistant & Provider Guidelines and Applications section for more detail.

Personal Session Providers provide direct personal experience of the SE method in Personal Sessions, enhancing SE class participants’ learning of SE, and providing an example of how SE can be incorporated into various practice modalities. Case Consultation Providers help SE students deepen their understanding of SE principles and methods in relation to their own practice modality, help them integrate SE effectively into their particular practice settings, and provide support for developing participants’ individualized practice of SE with their clients.

The assisting experience may vary between training cohorts and instructing Faculty. Assistants are encouraged to reach out to Faculty for more information on the expected assisting experience for specific modules and cohorts. The experience of providing Personal Sessions and Case Consultations will also vary for each SE Credit Provider based on their individual practice or modality, scope of practice, and integration of SE.

Please note that Assistants hold volunteer positions. While SE Personal Session and Case Consult Providers receive payment from participants, the compensation or benefit received for Assisting is largely from the additional experience with SE materials, understanding and experiencing various nervous systems, and exposure to potential clients at the trainings. Being a Personal Session or Case Consultation Provider should not be considered a career path.

We cannot guarantee that Assistants will progress through the various Personal Session or Case Consult Provider levels or maintain approval to provide credited sessions/consultations after receiving initial approval. Please refer to our contact page for additional support with your assisting trajectory.

ASSISTANT AND PROVIDER PROGRAM FAQ

To view the PDF of the FAQs below, click here. If you still have questions, please refer to our contact page.

How do I get chosen as an Assistant?

Faculty members select their own assistants for each of their trainings out of the pool of approved assistants. You will first need to apply and be approved as an assistant. Once approved, you will contact the faculty member you wish to assist with to express your interest.

How many people can I have in a group if I am approved as a Group Consult Provider?

If you are approved as a small group case consult provider, you may have a maximum of 8 participants in your consultation. SE faculty members may consult to larger groups.

Do I need a letter of recommendation from a faculty member for each level of Assisting/Session providing I apply for?

Yes. A unique letter of recommendation from a faculty member must be submitted with the assisting/session providing application that specifically recommends you to assist/provide at the level for which you are applying. For case consulting applications, 2 recommendation forms (not letters) must be submitted with each level of individual or small group consulting application.

What if I don't know a faculty member well enough to fill out a consultant recommendation form?

If a faculty member has not worked with you or consulted you enough for them to recommend you as a case consultant, you may need to pay the faculty member for private case consultation(s) inside of which the faculty member will be able to discuss your skills with you to better provide a recommendation.

Once I am approved as an Assistant for all levels, what do I need to do if I want to assist for a new training?

As an approved assistant for all levels, you do not need to “reapply” as an assistant. If you want to assist at an upcoming training track, you will need to:

  1. Contact the faculty member to express your interest & arrange to join their team.
  2. Sign the applicable informed consent and release agreements if you have not already done so:
Assistant Informed Consent and Release Agreement
Provider Informed Consent and Release Agreement
