SE™ INTERNATIONAL TRAINING & EVENTS

We’re upgrading for you!

Our systems are under construction! Over the next month our technology systems are undergoing a major upgrade, and it’s temporarily slowing down our response time while we work through the natural bumps and barriers. Our current response time is up to 2-3 weeks, and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better prioritize the most urgent issues, our phone support team has been redistributed to support backlog areas. We are receiving your messages and will respond and address your issues as soon as we possibly can! Thank you for your patience as we improve our systems to serve you better!

Upcoming SEI Training & Events

How to register:

  • The SE training program uses private events to ensure students have met the prerequisites before registering. To sign up for your current module, use the unique, personal link previously emailed to you. Registering directly through the training calendar will not work. • Crisis Stabilization & Safety events, conferences, and webinars are public and anyone can register via the training calendar.

If you are interested in receiving updates about Advanced training modules in the US and Canada, please email communications@traumahealing.org to be added to the email list. Gender Diversity and Gender Affirming Mental Health Care

Community Conversations
Date: December 9, 2022 | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM Mountain
Presenter: Jared Anderson (he/him), LMFT, Payam Ghassemlou, Ph.D., MFT, SEP, David Cato, LCSW, TCT, SEP, CCTP-II and Sean Baker (He/Him) LMFT, SEP
Location: Online

Members of the LGBTQ+ community are 2.5x more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and substance misuse than the general population. This demonstrates immense disparities in life experiences that can detrimentally affect the LGBTQ+ community. In response, gender-affirming care has been designed to support and affirm an individual’s gender identity, in turn, allowing individuals to live healthier, more authentic lives.

In today’s session, our featured guests will be discussing the importance of gender affirming mental health care, as well as sharing their experiences with being a part of or working with the LGBTQ+ community. We hope this session provides you with a unique perspective on this subject and serves as a safe space for thoughts, questions, and ideas.

In every SE™ Community Conversation series, you can count on lively discussion, tips and tools, and group exercises. The insights and perspectives on this topic, the challenges, opportunities, and specific issues prevalent to this field all promise to be more worthwhile than ever, worldwide.

Glad you will join us, and please tell a friend about this free series- All Are Welcome - This is for YOU!

Presenter: Shideh Lennon, Ph.D., SEP

Details

Honoring our commitment to serving the needs of those who have, to date, been under-represented in the SE community, Somatic Experiencing International is launching its first BIPOC (Indigenous, Black and otherwise identified People of Color) cohorts.

While representing a wide range of cultures and experiences, this cohort will provide the opportunity to learn SE to an international audience of practitioners dedicated to supporting their marginalized communities in healing from the damaging effects of trauma. Students will be able to learn the SE skills and framework within the safe environment of a BIPOC training team and participants and explore how the skills are applicable to their communities.

We will be covering the standard SE curriculum while recognizing how issues of racism and historical oppression impact our experiences of traumatic events. We will also explore how culture and connection to culture helps to heal trauma.

Online Group Case Consults – Sexual Trauma & Sexuality

Date: August 18, September 14, October 5, October 18, November 23, and December 6, 20225
Presenter: Ariel Giarretto, MS, LMFT, CMP, SEP, SE Faculty
Location: Online Group Case Consultations
Details

I'm excited to be offering a series of online group consultations specifically addressing all issues of sexuality and intimate relationships for trauma therapists and sex educators and "sexperts". Of course I am available to answer your questions, and for you to present cases. There are also a variety of topics which could be discussed if they are of interest to you:

• working gently and effectively with sexual abuse or assault, and the steps needed to move towards healthy intimacy and re-embodiment

• supporting people who have limited body awareness or fears of being sexual,

• working with LGBTQ or issues of gender identity

• working with infertility, low libido, lack of sexual interest, or body dysmorphia,

• addressing common sexual struggles such as the aging body, erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia

• couples and.....well..... all the complexities of coupledom--sexual incompatibility, how to "spice up" long term relationships, jealousy, infidelity

• the perils and joys of "poly"...how to "open" a relationship gracefully

• for touch therapists--how not to re-traumatize clients

• working skillfully with kink, BDSM

I've attempted to vary the day of the week and the start times to allow a variety of time zones and schedules to participate. I welcome you emailing me in advance with specific topics to cover and I will also make time for a number of client cases. All programs are Pacific Time as indicated above. Those of you in the SE training needing faculty consultation credits, these groups will qualify for a half hour of credit at any level, however you must be on the call to get credit, and you must be present the whole time. I cannot grant consultation credit unless you are live on the call. Feel free to pass this info on.

The day before the event I'll be sending out Zoom requests. Feel free to email me with any questions you might have.

New Embodied SE Beginning Group Consultation

Date: TBD
Presenter: Liz George, Ph.D.
Location: Group Case Consult
Details

This group will work with the principles of SE in consultation. We will begin with an embodied grounded practice that will help us arrive and touch into our ventral vagal resource. As we discuss cases or topics we will take pauses to stay connected to our bodies. We will notice our own autonomic responses - ventral vagal (rest), sympathetic (fight/flight), and dorsal vagal (freeze). We will notice how this shows up in the group so that we can practice staying connected to ourselves and our clients. This group will match the skills that you are learning in the SE beginning modules so that you can connect what you are learning to clinical practice.

A time for this group will be set once I have enough people interested. I will base it on my schedule and the availability of the interested students.
The group will be 3 hours (the equivalent of one credit for group consultation) and will cost $75. This group will start online, with the potential to be in-person if there are enough people in the Boulder/Denver area who would like to join.

I am also offering beginning individual consultation at a reduced rate of $80 while I am in the process of acquiring my hours.

You can contact me about the group at 303-916-2036 or docliz.george@gmail.com

Looking forward to connecting with you!

Liz George, Ph.D. (she/her/s) is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Boulder, Colorado. She received her B.A. in English and Psychology from the University of NC at Chapel Hill. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from University of CO at Boulder. She was a research associate at the University of CO Boulder until 2012 conducting treatment outcome research for individuals with bipolar disorder. She is co-author of The Bipolar Teen and multiple research articles on the psychosocial treatment of bipolar disorder.

In 2005 she began her journey in somatic therapy. She is a certified Brainspotting therapist, a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and a Somatic Resilience and Regulation for early trauma touch therapist. She is in the process of completing her DARe (Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experience) certification.

Dr. George is committed to social and climate justice. She inhabits a white body and has been involved in many social justice trainings for white bodies. She is in the process of receiving an embodied social justice certificate. She is currently leading a Somatic Experiencing informed healing racialized trauma for white bodies group.

Finally, Dr. George has an active ecodharma Zen practice combining spiritual practice, grief and trauma healing, and activism. She is inspired by the teachings of Joanna Macy and is involved in a book group that includes participants from 4 continents who come together to practice the healing exercises in the Work that Reconnects.
