Urs Rentsch started his professional career as an electronic engineer (ETH Zurich) followed by working in the field of appropriate technology for developing countries. In 1983, he began studying medicine at the Universities of Basel and Zurich and continued working in various hospitals and clinical practices. During and after his medical studies he was trained in various therapeutic modalities including: Polarity Therapy, Homeopathy, Focusing and TAE with Gene Gendlin, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the University Basel, Schematherapy with Jeffrey Young, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Steve Hayes and others.

Urs has worked in private practice since 1994 as homeopath, psychotherapist, and psychiatrist. In 1999 he started his training in Somatic Experiencing with Peter Levine followed by assisting and being mentored as an SE-trainer by Steven Hoskinson and Heike Gattnar. He continues to assist Peter Levine's post-Advanced workshops in Switzerland.

Urs has taught anatomy and physiology in body-therapy-schools for many years and has led neurophysiology workshops at the Swiss Center for SE (Center for Inner Ecology, ZIO). He became a faculty member of SE International in 2013 and currently teaches Somatic Experiencing in northern Germany and is a faculty representative to the Board of the European Association of Somatic Experiencing (EASE). In 2015 he will begin leading SE trainings in Austria and Switzerland.
