As I sit here, reflecting on my experience in the online 8-module SE™ Professional Certificate Training Program, specifically the Intermediate I module with Debra Clydesdale this past February, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. The journey through Somatic Experiencing® has been nothing short of transformative, both personally and professionally.
From the moment I logged into the virtual classroom, I felt a sense of coming home. Debra's warm presence and expertise created a safe space for all of us to explore and grow. As we delved into the intricacies of SE™, I began to understand the profound impact this approach could have on my own healing journey.
Throughout the four days, I found myself experiencing a paradigm shift in how I viewed my past and my relationships. The SE™ principles taught me to come home to myself in a way I never had before. I learned to listen to my body, to honor its wisdom, and to approach myself with a level of compassion and grace I had not known was possible.
One of the most powerful realizations came when we discussed family dynamics and intergenerational trauma. As we explored these concepts through an SE™ lens, I had a breakthrough in understanding my parents. I realized that they were not the heroes I had once idealized, nor were they the villains I had sometimes painted them as in my darker moments. They were simply human, doing the best they could with their own unresolved traumas and limited resources.
This understanding opened the door to forgiveness. I found myself able to accept my parents as they are, acknowledging their flaws while appreciating their efforts. It was as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders, allowing me to move forward with a newfound lightness.
As the module progressed, I began to see how I could integrate these personal insights into my professional practice. As a practitioner working with perimenopausal and menopausal women dealing with hormonal imbalances, I saw countless opportunities to incorporate SE™ principles into my work.
The concept of “marinating in my truth” resonated deeply with me. I realized that living my purpose did not have to be a grand, sweeping gesture. Instead, it could be a series of small, intentional steps, each guided by the wisdom of my nervous system.
By the end of the module, I felt equipped with a powerful new tool to support my clients. The SE™ approach offers an extra layer of nervous system support that I believe will be invaluable in addressing the complex interplay between hormones, stress, and overall well-being in perimenopausal and menopausal women.
As I look ahead, I am filled with excitement and purpose. The 8-module SE™ Professional Certificate Training Program, and particularly this Intermediate I module with Debra, has not only enhanced my professional toolkit but has also deepened my personal journey of healing and self-discovery.
I am grateful for this experience and eager to continue integrating these profound learnings into both my personal life and my practice. The path ahead feels rich with possibility, and I am ready to take it one step at a time, guided by the wisdom of Somatic Experiencing®.
