Applications of Somatic Experiencing with Deaf and Hard of Hearing People – Cara Miller
Description
| Deaf and hard of hearing people frequently experience unique challenges and opportunities in accessing support for trauma resolution and healing. Research suggests that this population is nearly twice as likely to report experiences of trauma and to meet criteria for PTSD compared to hearing populations. Along with higher reported rates of childhood maltreatment, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and crime victimization. This workshop will discuss ways in which the Somatic Experiencing framework and tools can be utilized to support improved quality of care and more effective outcomes for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals and communities. Particular emphasis will be made on effective adaptation of SE for Deaf and hard of hearing clients, and ways of supporting access to Somatic Experiencing training among Deaf and hard of hearing SE students and practitioners. |
