Russell I. Jones is an Advanced level Somatic Experiencing instructor. He was trained by Dr. Peter Levine, creator of the SE method, and is a founding member of the Brazilian Trauma Association. He has been teaching SE intensively since 2005 in multiple locations in North and South America, Asia, and Europe. He also maintains a private SE practice in Florianopolis, Brazil.
Russell has a BA in psychology and is a Certified Lecturer of Shin Shin Toitsu Do, the Art of Mind and Body Coordination, and has a 6th degree black belt in Ki-Aikido. He is a certified Matrixworks trainer, which is an effective method for working with group dynamics.
Russell has been studying, and experimenting with, the connection between mind, body, and attention since adolescence and maintains a personal practice of meditation, breath work, and embodiment.
Together, with SE senior faculty member Lael Keen, he operates a learning center in Florianopolis, Brazil. Russell works with students and clients from diverse backgrounds and cultures including psychologists, physicians, body workers, educators, administrators, athletes, and clergy, to name a few. He welcomes all students interested in Somatic Experiencing, supporting diversity and inclusion, to help create a rich learning environment.
Russell strongly believes in the learning power of connection and experience, and organizes trainings in a flexible, supportive, and safe way. He encourages each student to discover and develop their own individual abilities in facilitating the renegotiation and resolution of trauma. He also appreciates that humor, playfulness, and fun help create safety and an optimal learning environment.
