At its December 18 business meeting, the SE Institute Board of Directors asked Interim Executive Director Marv Tuttle to remove “Interim” from his title after two years of service in that role. We are thrilled to announce that Tuttle accepted the board’s offer to become full-time executive director of the Institute, effective with this announcement in SE Today.

“I am humbled and am appreciative of the Board’s trust and confidence in my efforts to help bring clarity and stability to the governance and overall operations of the organization,” said Tuttle.  “There is much more work to be done.   Along with the talented staff on board whom I’m pleased to serve and support, I’m looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.   I am thankful to the Board, global faculty, our many training assistants, program coordinators and our international partners and organizers for their support and guidance along the way.”

2019/2020 Special Report

On December 29, 2020 the SE Institute was pleased to release “SE Today and Tomorrow: A Special Report on Our Organization.” This publication provides insight into and highlights our significant efforts in 2019 and 2020 to place the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute (SE Institute) on a path of positive change to broaden the mission and vision and to expand the impact of Somatic Experiencing throughout the world.

Upcoming SE Global Community Town Hall

The SE Institute is inviting all members of the Somatic Experiencing Community to the next Global Community Town Hall meeting on Tuesday January 12, 2021 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. MST. The meeting will be held via Zoom and Facebook live. Registration is not required and admittance will be on a first come/first serve basis. Attendees are welcome to sign on beforehand, but the actual meeting will open and begin at the top of the hour. Follow the Zoom link provided to join.

Faculty Track Deadline for Upcoming Application Review Meetings

The International (InterFAC) and North American (NAFAC) Faculty Accreditation Committees will begin their 2021 quarterly meeting scheduled in January to review candidate applications for Faculty Track. InterFAC will meet Thursday, January 14 and NAFAC will meet Thursday, January 28. Final deadlines to submit applications for review for these January meetings are Monday, January 11, for InterFAC and Thursday, January 21 for NAFAC.

InterFAC is responsible to consider and review all faculty candidate applications for teaching in countries not under the oversight of the European Association for Somatic Experiencing (EASE) or the Associação Brasileira do Trauma – the Brazilian SE Association. NAFAC is established to consider and review all faculty candidate applications for teaching in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Somatic Experiencing Institute and Therapy Aid Coalition Partnership Press Release

On December 21, 2020 the SE Institute and Therapy Aid Coalition (TAC) announced a partnership that will work toward bringing relief in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and current disasters in the United States. TAC is a charitable organization founded on the belief that therapy should be accessible to all. Their mission is to develop and support a national network of psychotherapists able to respond to crises that arise in the United States. SE Institute is excited to be partnering with TAC as both organizations strive toward the healing of trauma in the face of today’s global struggles. Top Webinars of 2020: How to Access Recordings

The SE Institute’s webinar offerings in 2020 grew by 42% percent and will continue to grow into 2021. The three webinars with the highest attendance in 2020 were:

  • The Intersection of Personal and Collective Trauma with Thomas Hübl: A discussion on how personal, intergenerational, and collective traumas are interwoven and how true healing requires that trauma be addressed on multiple levels. This webinar had 391 attendees.
  • Dealing with Times of Turbulence and Fear: SE and Covid-19 with Peter Levine: An exploration of recent findings in the neurosciences that have emerged from those studying Covid-19. This webinar had 305 attendees.
  • Becoming Trauma-Sensitive: Making Mindfulness and Meditation Safe for Trauma Survivors with David Treleaven, PhD: An introduction to the principles of trauma-sensitive mindfulness. This webinar had 295 attendees.

Podcasting for Mental Health Professionals

January 5, 2021 kicked off the first episode of Guy Macpherson's four-part workshop: Podcasting For Mental Health Professionals. This workshop is four modules, over the course of four weeks, with each module lasting one hour. Total: 4 hours. Guy will teach participants how to produce, edit, publish and market a podcast.
