SEI Annual Conference Update (October 22-24, 2021)

3 Sessions You Can't Miss

“I’m Here”

Here in North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia. Here on-line. Here on innovations in SE.SE is all around the globe. And so is our virtual Conference. Come join us.
October 22-24

Our keynote speakers and plenary sessions include Dr. Peter Levine, Dr. Stephen Porges, Dr. Ruth Lanius, and Dr. Jack Kornfield, among others. The Conference will have sessions on children and SE, SE for LGBTQ and other vulnerable populations, international roundtables, 4 research study presentations, SE for the deaf community, and much more. Here are 3 sessions you can’t miss:

  • Working effectively with young people in the 21st century requires providers and educators to both share meaningful information and offer experiential learning in an intentional and often time-limited approach. How can we offer to parents, teachers, doctors and others not trained in neuroscience and trauma a helpful balance to guide our younger clients towards resilience?” – Come learn from Jennifer Trivelli on practical tools for working with youth.
  • “Healthcare workers have had to face major difficulties and traumatic situations during the time of Covid-19. The ability to cope with intense stress and anxiety has been crucial, especially for frontline healthcare workers. How can SE help?” – Come hear Derya Eryigit discuss her research  study on reducing traumatic and chronic stress and enhancing resilience.
  • “What did a 4-year-long research study on the efficacy of SE to treat PTSD reveal? How can SE build on this study for the future?” – Come hear Gina Ross, SEP, discuss the results of this study.

In addition to live, interactive sessions, the Conference includes 8 pre-recorded on-demand sessions and daily opening movement and ending dance parties.

Believe in Our Mission? Here is Your Chance to Help.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of every non-profit – SEI included. You help us lighten the load, amplify our efforts, make a bigger impact, and reach our strategic planning goals. We have big plans for better communications from SEI, including podcasts, more videos, and rich and robust content on our website that will help us tell the many stories of SE. Specifically, we are currently looking for people who’d like to join a new Communications Advisory Committee to advise and help us with these plans. If you have both an interest and skills in communications planning and implementation, we’d love to hear from you. We envision a small but dedicated group of volunteers for this new Committee. Your support of our Communications team can really make a difference.

Why Yoga Can Be Triggering for Trauma Survivors

An article by SE Webinar Presenter Laura Khoudari

“Yoga often asks us to stay still, which can mimic a defensive state of freeze or collapse. Stillness also opens us up to unprocessed arousal energy, which can trigger panic, flashbacks, and other symptoms of excessive nervous system arousal — even though we’re doing something touted as ‘relaxing' and ‘good” for stress.”
