"Recently, the Somatic Experiencing International Board of Directors had our first in-person board meeting since November 2019. Our hope for this meeting was that we would be able to have our international partners join us in person in Boulder, Colorado. Unfortunately, COVID-19 safety and restrictions made this impossible, but we had a wonderful hybrid meeting with several of us together in person and several others on Zoom from around the world. This conversation was the first step to open the space for what the word International means in our new name – Somatic Experiencing International."
Come join us as we honor the legacy of Dr. Peter Levine and as leaders in SE share how it’s being used around the world.
Two sessions you won’t want to miss at the SEI International Virtual Conference:
Alanis Morissette
Peter Levine
Alanis Morrisette: Internationally known recording artist, wife, mother, and mental health advocate. Join Alanis and Peter as they discuss stress and trauma recovery, resilience, and the power of SE. Please watch your email for a clip from this one-hour conversation, which will be available exclusively to Conference attendees in October. Listen to this 2016 podcast with Peter, hosted by Alanis:
Dr. Edith “Edie” Eger: Psychologist, prolific author, faculty member at the University of California, San Diego – and survivor of Auschwitz. “In Auschwitz I chose not to listen to the guards. I did not allow them to touch my peace of mind. Positive thinking must be followed by positive action.” Edie’s conversation with Peter is available exclusively to Conference attendees.

Please welcome Wei Kang of New Age Life Coaching as the organizer of new SE training in Malaysia and Chih Jung Lai, SEP, and Hsu Hsing Chiao, SEP, both co-founders of New Age Life Coaching, as the new trainers. The training, scheduled to begin in December 2021, will be in Petaling Jaya, about 15 minutes from the city center of Kuala Lumpur. According to Wei Kang, “Mr. Lai and Ms. Hsu believe that SE will be important for the Chinese community, whose ancestors were from mainland China and who make up about 23% of the Malaysian population. The struggles and the traumatic experiences that the ancestors of the local Chinese have been through are still affecting them today. As both instructors have instilled the core of SE into their teachings in the past few years, we saw encouraging and positive response to our idea of offering SE training to others.”
The training will be in both English and Chinese and Wei Kang expects a full cohort of about 30 participants in the first training, with expansion and introduction of SE training to more regions in Malaysia in the near future.
Believe in Our Mission? Here is Your Chance to Help
Volunteers are the lifeblood of every non-profit – SEI included. You help us lighten the load, amplify our efforts, make a bigger impact, and reach our strategic planning goals.
We have big plans for better communications from SEI, including podcasts, more videos, and rich and robust content on our website that will help us tell the many stories of SE. Specifically, we are currently looking for people who’d like to join a new Communications Advisory Committee to advise and help us with these plans. If you have both an interest and skills in communications planning and implementation, we’d love to hear from you. We envision a small but dedicated group of volunteers for this new Committee. Your support of our Communications team can really make a difference.

SE Community Conversation: Mental Wellness In the Line of Duty: Supporting Public Safety Professionals
September 10, 2021 | 12pm MT
In this month’s SE Community Conversation, we recognize the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Come hear a dynamic panel discuss the unique neurophysiology of emergency responders, hear about the hidden challenges emergency responders face, and learn about resources available. This community gathering will focus on how SE, a neurobiologically based trauma resolution method, can be a resource to public safety professionals such as fire fighters and law enforcement, as well as to mental health professionals who work with these communities.
Find us – and engage with us – on our social media channels or by email. We’d love to connect.
