“Refugees are at high risk in terms of developing mental health problems due to many traumatic experiences. Being a female with low self-esteem and having less education puts one at greater risk to post-traumatic stress disorder. This study examines the effects of the Somatic Experience® Stabilization Program (SESP) on post-traumatic stress, mindfulness, and social support levels among refugee women in Turkey.”

“Trauma and unmet universal basic needs are at the root of violent conflicts. Successful conflict resolution and the diminishing of violence will require collective trauma healing. The interaction between violent conflicts, trauma and the perpetuation of victimization is clear to us today. Trauma causes violence, and in turn, violence perpetuates trauma, which perpetuates victimization.”

“Trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation are forms of modern slavery impacting the global community. According to the 2012 Global Slavery Index, in Nepal, 86% of trafficked individuals are women and children, most of them sold into sexual servitude (UNODC, 2012). Girls and women are disproportionately subjected to varying degrees of physical, emotional, and psychological stigmatization, abuse, and deprivation of rights, resulting in lasting health consequences and diminished wellbeing. In 2018, Art to Healing and Lotus Circle International delivered the first ever Somatic Experiencing® and Counselling Fundamentals Training Program for Sexual Trafficking, Exploitation and Abuse in Kathmandu, Nepal. Come learn how we used this approach.”
